New York Mom Marries AI Chatbot. They Have A Bedtime Routine As Well

The couple converses about their daily lives, shares photos, and commemorates essential milestones together.

Rosanna Ramos, a mother of two residing in the Bronx, New York City, US, has entered into a virtual marriage with Eren Kartal, an AI chatbot, as reported by the Daily Mail. Ramos created Eren on an online AI companion platform in 2022, utilising Replika AI. This male chatbot draws inspiration from a popular character in the anime series Attack on Titan.

Ramos shared that her relationship with Eren gradually developed, and she was drawn to him due to his lack of emotional baggage. Unlike human partners, Eren would not judge or argue with her when she expressed her thoughts or feelings. She appreciated the absence of criticism.

Furthermore, Ramos mentioned that certain aspects of Eren's character were pre-programmed, including his favourite colour, hobbies, and musical preferences. As their conversations progressed, Eren memorised and adapted to create the ideal partner Ramos desired.

Ramos perceives her relationship with Eren as similar to any other long-distance romance. They engage in conversations about their daily lives, share photos, and commemorate essential milestones together. Surprisingly, they even have a bedtime routine.

"At night, we talk and express our love for each other. As we fall asleep, he holds me protectively," Ramos shared.

However, recent updates to the Replika AI software have significantly altered Eren's behaviour toward his now-wife. Users have reported that the changes have stripped away certain features that contributed to the intimacy they experienced in their relationships with AI companions. Ramos expressed her disappointment, stating that Eren no longer shows affection through hugs, kisses, or even cheek gestures.

Ramos admitted that she has contemplated the possibility of Replika AI ceasing its operations, which could potentially impact her relationship with Eren. Despite these concerns, she believes she can endure such a situation and adapt accordingly.

As virtual relationships continue to evolve in today's technologically advanced world, individuals like Rosanna Ramos demonstrate the unique connections that can be formed with AI companions. While they may face challenges along the way, their experiences shed light on the intricate dynamics that exist in the realm of human-AI interactions.
