Barack Obama, Narendra Modi And More: Here Are The Most-Followed Global Leaders On X

PM Modi is surpassed only by former US President Barack Obama, whose account boasts an impressive 131.7 million followers.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved a feat on social media platform X, previously Twitter, by surpassing 100 million followers and claiming the top spot among global leaders on the platform. This milestone puts him significantly ahead of other prominent world figures in terms of social media reach. PM Modi had joined the micro-blogging platform in 2009.

For comparison, other notable leaders have considerably smaller follower counts on X, including United States President Joe Biden, whose X account has  38.1 million followers, while spiritual leader Pope Francis has 18.5 million followers on X. Sheikh Mohammed, the ruler of Dubai, has amassed 11.2 million followers.

World's Most-Followed Leaders On X

  • Globally, PM Modi ranks second in terms of social media following among political figures on X. He is surpassed only by former US President Barack Obama, whose account boasts an impressive 131.7 million followers.
  • PM Modi is placed just ahead of another former US President, Donald Trump, who holds the third position with 87.4 million followers on the platform.
  • In the ranking of political figures on X by follower count, the current US President Joe Biden occupies the fourth position with 38.1 million followers.
  • Following closely behind is India's Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has 35.2 million followers on X, securing the fifth spot.
  • The sixth place belongs to Hillary Clinton, who previously served as the United States Secretary of State. Her account on X has 31 million followers. 
  • Canadian PM Justin Trudeau has 6.5 million followers on X, formerly Twitter. 
  • When compared to Prime Minister Modi's follower count on X, other prominent Indian political figures have considerably smaller audiences on the platform. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who serves as both the CM and the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has 27.5 million followers.
  • Rahul Gandhi, a key figure in the Congress party and the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has 26.4 million followers. Akhilesh Yadav, representing the Samajwadi Party, maintains a following of 19.9 million on X.
