WhatsApp To Soon Shut Old macOS App, Here's What You Can Do To Keep Using This Meta-Owned Platform

Meta advises macOS users to either download the new version from the official WhatsApp website or get it from the Mac App Store before the deadline.

Meta owned WhatsApp has probably become one of the most used instant messaging platforms in India. It has kept on evolving to enhance the user experience and maintain its top position in the market. Meta is now urging MacOS users who use WhatsApp to switch to the newer app. Meta has recently confirmed that the old macOS app for WhatsApp will stop functioning soon, and the users will be prompted to install the new WhatsApp macOS app.

Why Is Meta Shutting Old WhatsApp App On macOS

WaBetaInfo recently shared that the old version of WhatsApp for macOS will be shut down in 54 days. Meta is advising macOS users to either download the new version from the official WhatsApp website or get it from the Mac App Store before the deadline passes. This update is important for anyone who wants to keep getting new features and updates.

The reason the old macOS WhatsApp is being discontinued is because it was built using Electron technology, which functioned like a web app on Macs and had performance issues. As WhatsApp adds more features and improves, the old version just isn’t suitable for today’s needs.

The new macOS WhatsApp app, however, is built with catalyst technology. This allows it to run directly on Macs and use the iOS app as its base, making it faster and more responsive. This update fixes many of the problems users experienced with the old version.

To use the new WhatsApp app for macOS, you need to have macOS 11 or a newer version. Currently, there isn’t a native WhatsApp app for iPads. iPad users can only use the web version of WhatsApp through any web browser until a dedicated app becomes available.
