Reliance Jio, India’s leading telecom provider by market share, recently introduced voice and SMS-only plans. However, the announcement didn’t sit well with many consumers, as evidenced by the wave of online criticism. Adding to the disappointment, TelecomTalk has now verified that Jio will not support data vouchers with these plans.
The company confirmed this restriction through its official social media account on X.

Jio Voice, SMS-Only Plans
Jio currently offers two voice and SMS-only plans—priced at Rs 448 and Rs 1,748—which provide unlimited calling benefits for 84 and 336 days, respectively, along with a limited number of SMS. However, a major downside of these plans is that users cannot purchase separate data packs if they require mobile data later.
In contrast to this, Vodafone Idea has confirmed that its voice and SMS-only plans allow users to add data vouchers, ensuring both services function together. Similarly, Bharti Airtel follows the same approach, permitting users to recharge with data packs alongside their voice plans. This makes Jio the only telecom operator restricting customers from adding data vouchers to its voice and SMS-only plans.
