Meta To Launch Twitter-Like App 'Threads' After Elon Musk's Slew Of Curbs: Report

Meta Platforms, the parent company of the social media platform Facebook, will launch the microblogging app Threads.

Meta Platforms, the parent company of the social media platform Facebook, will launch the microblogging app Threads, as reported by Reuters. The app is likely to be launched on Thursday. This comes days after Elon Musk announced a temporary cap on the number of posts that a user can read on the social media site. The launch comes after Twitter announced that TweetDeck will now be available to verified users only, the company announced on Monday.

The microblogging platform in a tweet informed that the company has launched a new, improved version of TweetDeck. The tool which was previosuly available for free allows users to organise the accounts that they follow into  different columns to easily monitor content. This tool is mostly popular with news organisations.

The social media platform said in the tweet said that the new policy will come into effect in 30 days. The decision follows a series of drastic changes ordered by Elon Musk, which include requiring users to be logged in to the website in order to view tweets and limiting the number of tweets that can be viewed each day for unverified accounts to 600 and new unverified accounts to 300. The verified accounts can view upto 6,000 posts.

Meanwhile, Twitter users across countries on Saturday complained of facing issues accessing the micro-blogging website amid a buzz of a global outage. Thousands of users visited the micro-blogging website to discuss their experiences after the global outage hit Twitter, news agency ANI reported citing Down Detector, a website that tracks online service disruptions.

When attempting to see or post a tweet, the users complained that they received the "Cannot retrieve tweets" error message. The stated outage, however, was not experienced by many users worldwide.
