CERT-In Issues Security Warning Against These Apple Devices. Check If Your Device Is Affected By This Or Not

The government has advised people to keep their devices up to date with the latest versions to safeguard them against these threats.

This week, Apple users in India received a significant security advisory from the government. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), the country's security agency, issued a new security bulletin dated March 19. This bulletin specifically alerts users of Apple Watch, Apple TV, Mac, and even Vision Pro devices about a potential security risk. This risk could potentially enable attackers to gain remote access to users' devices, leading to the exposure of personal and confidential information and causing severe disruptions to the affected system.

What Is The Issue

CERT-In has drawn attention to the security vulnerabilities inherent in multiple Apple products. These vulnerabilities have the potential to allow attackers to gain unauthorized access to sensitive information, execute arbitrary code, circumvent security restrictions, and acquire elevated privileges on the targeted system.

What's particularly noteworthy is that these vulnerabilities impact a wide array of Apple devices. This includes Vision Pro, Apple TV HD and 4K models, Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models, as well as the majority of MacBooks released in the past several years, highlighting the widespread nature of the security risk across Apple's product lineup.

Who All Are Affected By This

  • Apple visionOS versions prior to 1.1

  • Apple macOS Monterey versions prior to 12.7.4

  • Apple macOS Ventura versions prior to 13.6.5

  • Apple macOS Sonoma versions prior to 14.4

  • Apple watchOS versions prior to 10.4

  • Apple Safari versions prior to 17.3

  • Apple tvOS versions prior to 17.4

How To Protect Yourself From This Threat

To mitigate the risk of encountering significant security vulnerabilities on your Apple device, it is highly advisable to ensure that your software is up to date with the latest version provided by the company. You can achieve this by navigating to General > Settings > Software Update and promptly installing any available updates.

This proactive approach not only safeguards your device but also ensures that you benefit from the most recent security enhancements and features released by Apple.
