Google I/O 2023: Android 14 To Come With Generative AI Wallpapers, More Features. Check Out Compatible Handsets

Google demonstrated a few exciting additions planned for Android 14 in the near future during the Google I/O keynote.

During the Google I/O 2023 event on Wednesday, Dave Burke, the Vice President of Engineering at Google, shed light on the upcoming enhancements and customisation options for the lock screen in Android 14. Android 14 was initially unveiled in February, alongside the release of its first developer preview. Subsequently, in April, Google introduced the first public beta version of Android 14, which is currently available for download, provided you have a compatible device such as the Pixel 7a or Pixel Fold.

The public and beta iterations of Android 14 have brought noteworthy advancements in privacy and security. For instance, users can now disable PIN animations to ensure safer unlocking of their phones in public settings. Additionally, accessibility features have been improved, with options such as larger font sizes for the visually impaired and flash notifications for individuals with hearing difficulties.

Expanding customisation options for the lock screen, Google demonstrated a few exciting additions planned for Android 14 in the near future during the Google I/O keynote.

One of these additions is the ability to personalise the lock screen by adding a custom clock. Users can select the font, colour, size, and design of their preference. Furthermore, new lock screen shortcuts will enable users to quickly access their frequently used functions directly from the lock screen. These shortcuts include turning on the flashlight, opening the payment wallet, or launching the camera for scanning QR codes.

Android 14 will also introduce fresh wallpaper options, including emoji wallpapers and cinematic wallpapers. The emoji wallpaper feature allows users to choose from a selection of up to fourteen different emoji, explore various patterns, and select colour patterns to create unique wallpapers for both the home and lock screens. These wallpapers are interactive, as the emoji will react to touch interactions.

With the cinematic wallpaper feature, users can transform any photo from their camera roll into a 3D image with motion effects, serving as a captivating backdrop. By utilising the sparkle icon button, the photos will exhibit a parallax effect when the device is tilted.

Moreover, Android will offer generative AI wallpapers for users seeking unique options. By selecting a theme, such as classic art or mystical botanicals, users can generate a wallpaper. Each wallpaper includes a customizable prompt at the bottom, and users can further personalise it. Swiping through the prompt options will present users with various choices.

In a move reminiscent of Apple's Find My feature, Google has improved its device tracking capabilities by leveraging the vast network of Android devices. If, for example, you misplace your Google Pixel buds at the airport, you can utilize nearby Android devices to assist in locating your Android 14-powered phone. Furthermore, the Find My feature will support tracking for third-party items equipped with trackers like Tile.
