Airtel, Jio Extends Prepaid Plan Validity Of Flood-Affected People In Northeast By 4 Days & Enables ICR In Tripura

Airtel and Jio have announced that they are extending the validity of the prepaid plans of the subscribers who live in the flood-affected region by four days. They have also enabled ICR in Tripura.

Northeastern states of India like Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya have been affected by flooding as incessant rain disrupted the lives of thousands of people there. According to a report by the Guardian, the widespread flooding caused the deaths of 10 people and displaced more than 34,000. The southern part of Tripura has been affected the worst and the 34,000 displaced people are being sheltered in the north of the region. Amidst this havoc, telecom companies like Airtel and Jio have extended a helping hand to these people.

Airtel and Jio have announced that they are extending the validity of the prepaid plans of the subscribers who live in the flood-affected region by four days. Both telecom companies have also enabled Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) in Tripura to ensure uninterrupted connectivity. Airtel has gone a step beyond and has extended the bill due date for postpaid customers by 30 days.

Airtel's Aid To Flood-Affected Consumers

  • Prepaid customers whose validity has expired and are unable to recharge their connections will be given 1.5GB of mobile data for free and unlimited calling for the next four days.
  • Bill payment dates for all postpaid customers are extended by 30 days to ensure customers have uninterrupted access to mobile service.
  • To ensure uninterrupted connectivity during the crisis, Airtel has introduced Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) in Tripura. This will allow users from other networks to access Airtel’s network seamlessly, ensuring that no one is left disconnected.

Jio's Aid To Flood-Affected Consumers

  • A 4-day validity extension will be automatically applied to customers whose plan has recently expired or is set to expire within the next 2 days.
  • Jio is enabling Intra-Circle Roaming (ICR) in Tripura which will let users from other networks to access Jio's network seamlessly. ICR support is effective immediately and will remain in place until 11:59 PM on August 27 or until further notice.
