Tamil Nadu Govt To Set Up New Satellite Town Near Mahabalipuram

Chennai: Tamil Nadu government is mulling to create a satellite town near Mamallapuram along East Coast Road (ECR), said Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi's in the Assembly on Monday. 

During the customary New Year’s address by Governor, he said that the development of the satellite town and the upgradation of East Coast Road as a four-lane road would stir the growth of the Chennai Metropolitan area.

As a result, Chennai Metropolitan Development Agency (CMDA) is mulling on land pooling in Madambakkam. 

The pooling will be done with the consent of land owners and classified on the usage of the land in order to promote planned development, he said, according to The Hindu.

This will be the sixth satellite town, according to Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA). The five other satellite towns include Thirumazhisai, Chengalpattu, Minjur, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur.

Meanwhile, Governor RN Ravi and the ruling DMK got into a controversy in the Assembly on Monday. The tussle between the ruling DMK and the Raj Bhavan hit a new low after Governor R N Ravi skipped portions of the government-prepared customary address in the Assembly. After the speech, Chief Minister M K Stalin also piloted a resolution to exclude from the House records whatever he spoke outside the State drafted speech.

Following Ravi's address, Stalin expressed regret about the Governor avoiding certain portions of the prepared address. The Chief Minister moved a resolution and it was adopted and Ravi left the House immediately and such a thing has perhaps happened for the first time in the history of the Assembly.

Dravidian model, Ambedkar, Dravidian leaders and the part on law and order in the state were among the topics skipped by the Governor and he also spoke on his own on certain aspects.
