Dengue Outbreak In Tamil Nadu: Centre's Dengue Control Teams Monitor Situation After 500 Cases Reported

While Dengue spread this year is not as bad as in 2017, the cases are slightly higher than last year, said Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan

Chennai: With dengue cases on the rise across the country, the Union Health Ministry's Dengue Control Team has been deployed in nine states to monitor the outbreak. A team from the Centre has monitored parts of Chennai in Tamil Nadu as the state has reported 2,875 cases till September 2021, according to the data from the Union Health Ministry.

Speaking to ABP Nadu, Tamil Nadu Health Secretary, J Radhakrishnan said, "The dengue cases are slightly higher than last year and it's not like the cases reported in 2017. The Central team also said that the recent rains will wash away several dengue eggs."

"There are many other states which report more dengue cases. Punjab reported 15,000 cases per month. So, just as a precautionary measure, the Centre has sent teams to monitor the situation," the health secretary added.

As a precautionary measure, the Centre has sent health experts which is mutually beneficial."

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramaniam said that the central teams arrived in the city to create understanding and meet the patients here. "All over Tamil Nadu, 493 persons have been affected by dengue. Last October, 30,000 (dengue-related) tests were conducted while it was 1.21 lakh this October," The Health Minister added as quoted by India TV.

According to the statistics released by Health & Family Welfare Department of Tamil Nadu Government, the dengue cases reported are lesser in number this year when compared to 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2017.
