Tamil Nadu: Chennai Corporation Plants 1.47 Lakh Saplings In The City

Taking the slogan "Greening Chennai" along with partner organisations, the city corporation has on Saturday planted 607, according to the corporation's data

New Delhi: In an attempt to beautify the city, the Greater Chennai Corporation has spearheaded planting sapling and as of Saturday, the civic body has planted 1,47,011 saplings in its limits.

Taking the slogan "Greening Chennai" along with partner organisations, the city corporation has on Saturday planted 607, according to the corporation's data.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday (March 22), the chief secretary Irani Anbu, secretary for municipal administration Shiv Das Meena and corporation commissioner Gagandeep Singh inspected the event of sapling-planting on the banks of the Adyar, said a Times of India report. Around 600 saplings have been planted on Tuesday in the presence of civic body top brass in the North Chennai and other parts of the city. 

The civic body has reportedly invited resident welfare associations and environmental conservationists to plant saplings and asked them to encourage people to plant as many saplings they can.
