Delhi BJP Promises Yamuna Revival, 50,000 Govt Jobs, Rs 10 Lakh Life Insurance For Gig Workers In Sankalp Patra

Delhi Elections 2025: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday unveiled the final part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Sankalp Patra (manifesto) for the upcoming Delhi Assembly election, making a slew of promises, including ownership rights for residents of unauthorised colonies, 50,000 government jobs, and the revival of the Yamuna river.
Addressing the event, Amit Shah said: "I have come here to release the last part of the Sankalp Patra for the Delhi Elections 2025. We consider elections as a medium of public connection, where we engage with people to understand their expectations. Without naming other parties, I want to say that for the BJP, the Sankalp Patra is a matter of trust. It is a list of tasks to be accomplished, not just promises on paper. Since 2014, Prime Minister Modi has established a politics of performance, and the BJP has consistently worked towards fulfilling its manifesto promises. This is our track record."
Delhi Election 2025: BJP's Key Promises
Rs 10 Lakh Life Insurance for Gig Workers and 50,000 Govt Jobs
For gig workers, the manifesto proposed the creation of a Gig Workers Welfare Board and announced welfare measures, including life insurance coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh, accident insurance of up to Rs 5 lakh, and discounted vehicle insurance. Textile workers and labourers were also promised Rs 10 lakh life insurance and Rs 5 lakh accident insurance.
The manifesto also outlined plans for job creation, including filling 50,000 government posts through a transparent process and generating 20 lakh self-employment opportunities. Furthermore, the BJP pledged to transition 13,000 buses to electric vehicles.
The manifesto also focused on enhancing public transport infrastructure, promising a Rs 20,000 crore investment to create an integrated transport network, convert 13,000 buses to electric vehicles, and ensure the completion of the Delhi Metro Phase IV. The BJP further pledged to make metro services and buses available 24x7.
The BJP also committed to providing free travel up to Rs 4,000 annually for students in Delhi Metro under the National Common Mobility Card scheme.
He also praised the central government’s infrastructure investments, citing Rs 41,000 crore spent on roads, Rs 15,000 crore on railway lines, and Rs 21,000 crore on airports in Delhi, claiming that Delhi would not have been livable without these contributions.
Yamuna Riverfront Development
The BJP committed to rejuvenating the Yamuna river through a dedicated Yamuna Fund and promised to develop a Yamuna Riverfront, similar to the Sabarmati Riverfront in Gujarat. The party assured that the project would be completed within three years.
Ownership Rights in 1,700 Unauthorised Colonies
The BJP pledged to grant full ownership rights, including the ability to buy, sell, and construct properties, in 1,700 unauthorised colonies across the national capital. Additionally, it promised to reopen 13,000 sealed shops within six months and provide ownership rights on leased land in refugee colonies.
"In more than 1700 unauthorised colonies, people will be given ownership. They were earlier not allowed to construct, buy, or sell properties, but now all permissions will be given according to by-laws of the Ministry of Housing," Amit Shah remarked.
Mahabharata Corridor And Ayushman Bharat scheme
The party announced plans to promote India’s ancient heritage by developing a grand Mahabharata Corridor if elected to power. It also pledged to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the first Cabinet meeting upon forming the government in Delhi.
Shah elaborated on the Mahabharata Corridor initiative saying, "To promote tourism, Mahabharat Corridor will be constructed with the cooperation of Haryana and UP governments. In line with the Sabarmati River Front, the Yamuna River Front will be constructed. I invite Arvind Kejriwal, three years after we form government, to come to Yamuna River Front with his family and take a dip in the Yamuna."
Delhi will vote on February 5 to elect a new 70-member Assembly, with results to be declared on February 8. In the outgoing Assembly, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) holds 62 seats, while the BJP has eight.
