Meanwhile, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP chief Mayawati condemned the murder of Armstrong and asked the Tamil Nadu government to "punish the guilty."
"The gruesome killing of K. Armstrong, Tamil Nadu state Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president, outside his Chennai house is highly deplorable and condemnable. An advocate by profession, he was known as a strong Dalit voice in the state. The state Govt. must punish the guilty," Mayawati said in a post on X on Friday.
As per police, 52-year-old Armstrong was standing in front of his house when unknown individuals attacked him with knives and fled the spot. The BSP leader sustained grievous injuries in the attack and was admitted to Apollo Hospital in the city with the help of police and passersby.
He was declared brought dead by doctors on arrival at hospital.
The police has, meanwhile, intensified the search for the culprits.
After the information of the BSP leader’s murder came out, party workers and supporters blocked a road in Chennai and protested. They demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits.
