Who Is Tamil Magan Hussain? One Of AIADMK Founding Members Who Is Now Party Presidium Chairman

Amid the power tussle in AIADMK between O Panneerselvam and Edappadi Palaniswami's factions, Tamil Magan Hussain, has been elected as Presidium Chairman at the General Council Meet

New Delhi: Amid the power tussle in AIADMK between O Panneerselvam and Edappadi Palaniswami's factions, the party's senior leader, Tamil Magan Hussain, has been elected as Presidium Chairman at the General Council Meeting held in Vanagaram on Thursday.

After taking charge, Hussain announced that the next AIADMK General Council Meeting will be held on July 11, 2022, at 9.15 am.

Who Is Tamil Magan Hussain?

Hussain, a staunch follower of AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, was made the Interim Presidium Chairman of the party on December 1, 2021. He has succeeded the former chairman E Madhusudhanan, who passed away in July 2021, due to Covid-19 complications. Hussain is a senior leader and MGR Mandram Secretary.

Hussain, who has been elected for this crucial role at the age of 85, is a senior leader in the party and is one of the founding members of the AIADMK in 1972. Hussian was one of those 11 party cadres who signed the form to register AIADMK as a political party. Since the inception of the party, Hussain held some crucial posts in the party. He was the first district secretary of Kanyakumari and stayed in the post for 14 years. Besides, he also held the post of chairman of the Waqf Board.

AIADMK Presidium Chairman History

Hussain was named Interim presidium chief of AIADMK in December last year, six months after the Presidium Chairman E Madhusudhanan passed away due to Covid-19 in July 2021. Madhusdhanan was also a staunch MGR loyalist and one of the founding members of the party. Madhusudhanan took charge as Presidium Chairman of AIADMK in 2007 and served till his death in 2021.

Hussain's appointment as an Interim Presidium Chairman in December came a day after the party's leadership group expelled Anwhar Rajaah -- who served as a Labour Minister in Jayalalithaa's cabinet from 2001-2006 -- from the post. Anwhar was expelled from the post for supporting former General Secretary VK Sasikala and speaking against dual leadership.
