PM Modi To Inaugurate 11 New Medical Colleges & Campus Of Central Institute Of Classical Tamil Today
The new medical colleges will provide 1,450 seats under the centrally sponsored scheme of ’Establishing of New Medical Colleges attached with existing district/referral hospital’.
Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate 11 new Government Medical Colleges and the new campus of Central Insitute of Classical Tamil in Chennai via video conferencing from New Delhi on Wednesday. PM Modi was earlier scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu on Wednesday but the travel was canceled due to the increasing covid-19 cases.
Prime Minister will be inaugurating 11 new medical colleges constructed at the cost of Rs 4,000 crore out of which Rs 2,145 crore was contributed by the Union government, according to Press Information Bureau release.
The colleges are set to come up in districts with no medical colleges across the state including Virudhunagar, Namakkal, The Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Tiruvallur, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram, Krishnagiri, Nagapattinam, and Dindigul.

Along with the medical colleges, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate a new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) in Chennai. The campus funded by the Union government is built at Rs 24 crore. The CICT which was operating from a rented building will now operate from a new 3-storey campus.
The new campus is equipped with a spacious library, an e-library, seminar halls, and a multimedia hall. The PM will also be inaugurating National Youth Conference in Puducherry via video conferencing on Wednesday.
