CM Stalin Orders Suspension Of ASP Balveer Singh Accused Of Custodial Torture
Earlier, TNSHRC Chairman K Bhaskaran took a suo moto case against IPS officer Balveer Singh.
Tamil Nadu CM Stalin announced in the Assembly that he had ordered to suspend Balveer Singh, the former ASP of Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli district, who was accused of custodial torture.
The CM also said that the government would not comprise when it comes to human rights violation at police station. He gave the reponse while addressing a special call attention motion.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu State Human Rights Commission (TNSHRC) took a suo moto case against IPS officer Balveer Singh for allegedly torturing and knocking down the teeth of suspects in custody on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, TNSHRC Chairman K Bhaskaran directed the IG, SHRC to investigate the matter. He also told the officers to submit a report within six weeks.
He said that he had taken up a suo moto complaint based on media reports.
Balveer Singh, who is currently kept in reserve vacancy, was working as ASP Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli district. During his tenure in Ambasamudram, the ASP was accused of inflicting custodial torturing on those taken into custody in various cases.
The alleged torture inflicted by the ASP came to light after two men, who were recently held and reportedly tortured by the ASP, released a video narrating their ordeal. They said the cop filled their mouth with gravel and hit their jaws. The ASP also crushed a testicle of a youth, said the duo.
Meanwhile, Tenkasi district collector Karthikeyan also initiated a probe into the matter. He appointed Mohammed Sabeer Alam, Cheranmahadevi sub-collector, as the investigating officer.
The investigation by the officers will reveal the details and the authenticity of the videos.

Balveer Singh is from Tonk in Rajasthan. He is a 2020 Batch IPS officer. He completed his education in IIT Bombay.
