Bengal: 5 Injured As Fresh Violence Breaks Out In Cooch Behar, Bengal Guv Takes Stock Of Situation

West Bengal Governor supervised the situation in Cooch Behar as fresh violence broke out on Saturday night leaving five injured.

Following cases of fresh clashes that erupted overnight, the Governor of West Bengal, CV Ananda Bose on Sunday took stock of the situation in the violence-hit Cooch Behar district. Five people got injured in the clashes that broke out in Dinhata on Saturday night. A police official while talking to news agency PTI said that a TMC candidate's kin was among the injured. The Governor monitored the situation throughout the night from the circuit house in Cooch Behar where he's currently staying. He issued instructions to the State Election Commissioner Rajiva Sinha, Superintendent of Police (SP), and District Magistrate.

A senior police official of Raj Bhavan while talking to PTI said, "The governor on Sunday morning visited the hospital where the five injured people are undergoing treatment and may also visit the spot where the clashes took place."

Bose also talked to the hospital authorities and asked them to ensure that the best possible treatment is given to the people who were injured.

He called the District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Cooch Behar while asking them to maintain law and order and arrest the culprits as soon as possible.

Bose who calls himself a 'Ground Zero Governor' is on a trip to the northern districts of the state. He has visited the families of the deceased as well as the families of the ones who got injured in violence in Dinhata.

The Raj Bhavan has opened a 'peace home' and a 24x7 phone number to address the complaints of violence and intimidation. The matters reported will immediately be taken up with the SEC or the chief secretary.

Around 5.67 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes on July 8 into the ballot for the Panchayat Elections.
