Delhi Election: Atishi Alleges BJP ‘Snatched CM Residence’ Again, Says ‘Will Stay In People’s Homes, Work Harder’

Delhi Election 2025: CM Atishi alleged she was evicted from her official residence by the BJP-led Union government for the second time in three months ahead of the election schedule announcement.

Delhi Election 2025: Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Tuesday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government had evicted her from her official residence for the second time in three months. She vowed to continue working with greater zeal for the people of Delhi, fulfilling the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) promises to women, the elderly, and priests.

Speaking at a press conference, Atishi said, “The schedule for Delhi elections was announced today. Last night, the BJP-led central government, for the second time in three months, threw me out of my official residence, which has been allotted to me as the CM. They cancelled the allotment of the CM residence through a letter and snatched away the residence from an elected CM of an elected government.”

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced that voting for the 70-member Delhi Legislative Assembly will take place on February 5, with the results declared on February 8.

Atishi further claimed, “When I became Chief Minister, my family and I were thrown out of our house and our belongings tossed onto the street. The BJP believes taking away my house will stop the work we are doing for Delhi.”

Highlighting her determination, Atishi remarked, “They can take away our homes and abuse us, but they cannot take away our determination to work for Delhi.” She added, “If needed, I will stay in your homes and work with double the speed and passion.”

Detailing her achievements, she said, “In the last three months, I have repaired roads in Delhi, built flyovers, opened new schools, resumed halted tests in mohalla clinics, and reinstated essential medicines.”

Atishi pledged to fulfill the AAP government’s promises, including the disbursal of Rs 2,100 to every woman under the Mahila Samman Yojna, free treatment for the elderly, and Rs 18,000 monthly honorariums for priests and granthis. “The BJP should understand that every AAP leader is ready to sacrifice everything for the people of Delhi,” she asserted.

Meanwhile, the PWD responded to the allegations saying that Atishi was not evicted from the Chief Minister's residence and an official residence at 17 AB Mathura Road is already allotted to her. It stated that the residence in question was taken away because the bunglow is under the scrutiny of the CBI and ED regarding the alleged corruption in its construction.

Delhi Election 2025: Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj Slams BJP For 'Unprecedented' Move

Delhi Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj termed the alleged move by the BJP-led Centre as “unprecedented” and accused the party of prioritising political vendettas over public welfare, “In recent times, the BJP’s working style shows they are unconcerned about the welfare of Delhi residents... For the first time in 75 years, an elected CM has been evicted from their official residence twice.”

Bhardwaj further alleged that the BJP’s primary agenda is to trouble AAP leaders. "They spend all their time filing cases, sending police, and trying to arrest us. Even in jail, they stop necessary medicines and insulin for prisoners," he claimed.

This comes after Atishi criticised BJP’s Kalkaji candidate Ramesh Bidhuri for his remarks about her father. Bidhuri alleged that Atishi had changed her surname from Marlena to Singh and accused her parents of seeking clemency for Afzal Guru, convicted in the 2001 Parliament attack case.

Condemning Bidhuri’s remarks, Atishi said, “You are abusing an old man who can’t even walk without support. My father is a teacher who has educated underprivileged students all his life, and you are abusing him and indulging in dirty politics.”

The allegations and counter-allegations have added to the political fervour as Delhi braces for the upcoming elections.
