Weather Update | Heatwave In Parts Of North India To Continue Till Tuesday, Light Isolated Rainfall Likely: IMD

Weather Update Today: IMD predicted that heatwave conditions are expected to prevail over parts of north India till Tuesday while light isolated rainfall is likely in the coming days.

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department on Monday informed that isolated parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, north Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh are expected to continue witnessing heatwave conditions.

This comes after the weather department predicted that the national capital is likely to witness heatwave conditions today, with the maximum temperature settling around 42 degrees Celsius.

As per a tweet by the IMD, heatwave in isolated parts over Jammu Division, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar can be experienced today, while over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, north Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Gangetic West Bengal, the conditions will prevail on Tuesday as well.  

Heatwave conditions are also expected over Jharkhand till Wednesday. The condition is likely to abate thereafter due to approaching Western Disturbance and wind conditions, IMD stated.

In another tweet, IMD wrote: "Light isolated rainfall likely over Punjab during next 5 days, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi during 19th-22nd April, 2022."

"Strong dust raising winds (speed reaching 25-35 kmph) very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, north Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh on 19th & 20th April, 2022," it further mentioned.

Air Quality In Delhi

As the Met Department, the minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 22.5 degrees Celsius, one notch higher than the season's normal.

The relative humidity in the city today at 8.30 am was 52 per cent.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) around 9 am was 252, according to data recorded by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research, news agency PTI reported.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".
