New Delhi: A major train accident was averted on Tuesday after two coaches of Lohit Express, which was traveling from Assam's Guwahati to Jammu Tawai, were detached from the engine in West Bengal’s North Dinajpur district.

The incident took place around 4.30 pm when two coaches of the express train got decoupled near Dalkhola, around 450 km from the state capital Kolkata.

A Twitter user shared the video of the train on Twitter and captioned it in Hindi, "The Lohit Express, traveling from Guwahati to Jammu Tawi, met with an accident near the Dalkola station in the Katihar railway division. Due to a coupling failure, the train's coaches got separated from each other, and the engine continued to run for a considerable distance. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the train was delayed by 16 hours."

According to the user, the coaches got detached due to a coupling failure. He stated that the engine of the train moved ahead, while the compartments were left behind.

"The detachment between coach B1 (10th from the engine) and B2 (11th from the engine) happened at 4.30 pm near Dalkhola. The coaches were reattached and services resumed at 4.55 pm. There are no reports of any injury," a railway official said, reported PTI.

Earlier on Sunday, another train accident was averted after the loco pilot spotted a melted and bent railway track.

According to the Mint, the incident was reported when Neelachal Express was passing through the loop line instead of the main line at Nigohan railway station in Lucknow and felt a jolt. Later after checking, it was found that the railway lines had melted and expanded due to heat.
