UP: Building Collapse In Muzaffarnagar Leaves 1 Dead, At Least 22 People Trapped

In Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar, a building roof collapsed, killing one person and trapping several. Rescue efforts are underway, with 11 people rescued and receiving treatment.

Muzaffarnagar Building Collapse: Several people are feared trapped after the roof of a building collapsed in Jansath, Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar. One person has been reported dead, while 11 have been rescued and are currently undergoing treatment. The District Magistrate of Muzaffarnagar, Aravind Mallappa Bangari, told news agency PTI, "22-25 people were trapped after the roof of a building collapsed in Jansath. One person lost his life, while 11 people have been rescued and are receiving treatment. The entire administration is present here for the rescue operation."

The incident occurred on Sunday in the Jansath Kotwali area of Muzaffarnagar when labourers were lifting a slab. The roof collapsed, trapping several labourers underneath. Police and administrative officials rushed to the scene to initiate rescue operations. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abhishek Singh and other officials are present at the scene.

"It was reported at 5:30 in the evening that this complex fell. We have two lintel structures and we are removing the above lintel structure...We have rescued 15 people as of now and we are more than hopeful that we will rescue the other people who are inside this. The operations are on. It was a two-floor complex..." he told news agency ANI.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath Directed Officials To Expedite Rescue Operations

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken note of the incident and directed officials to expedite rescue operations. "The Chief Minister has taken cognizance of the building collapse incident in Muzaffarnagar. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite rescue operations," said a statement.

Furthermore, CM Adityanath instructed doctors to provide appropriate treatment to the injured. Teams from SDRF and NDRF have been deployed at the site as per the CM's instructions to assist in rescue and relief efforts. Instructions have also been given to expedite the process of cutting concrete at the site.
