Vikravandi Bypoll Results: DMK Retains Seat As Anniyur Siva Defeats PMK, NTK Candidates

Vikravandi Bypoll Results: After the early trends, Tamil Nadu CM and DMK chief MK Stalin distributed sweets among party workers at the party office in Chennai.

Vikravandi Bypoll Results: The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) candidate Anniyur Siva won Vikravandi Assembly constituency by-election with 1,23,560 votes. The counting of votes, which were cast on July 10, began at 8 am with the postal ballots being processed first. This by-election was necessitated after the death of sitting DMK legislator N Pugazhenthi in April this year.

On Saturday, Anniyur Siva maintained a steady lead from the first round and finally pushed PMK candidate C Anbumani to the second spot with 56,074 votes and Naam Tamilar candidate Abinaya to the third spot with 10,561 votes

This election result was seen as a crucial test for the DMK, which has been under scrutiny for law-and-order issues, notably following the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy and the murder of BSP state chief Armstrong.

The by-election saw a voter turnout of 82.48 percent. On the day of counting, a three-tier security system was in place at the Panayapuram counting center. Earlier, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin did not personally campaign in the constituency for this by-election. Additionally, the main opposition parties, AIADMK and DMDK, boycotted the bypolls.

The DMK-led alliance had previously won all 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and the lone Puducherry segment in the recent Parliamentary elections, further solidifying their dominant political position in the region.
