Rain Forecast: IMD Sounds 'Red' Alert For Andhra, 'Orange' Warning For Several Telangana Districts Amid Floods

At least 29 people have died in Telangana in the recent heavy rain and flooding in the state.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a 'red' warning for Andhra Pradesh cautioning of "extremely heavy rain". The weather department has also sounded an "orange" warning for several districts in Telangana amid heavy rain and flooding in the state. 

According to the weather department, Telangana is likely to receive "very heavy rain" in around seven of its coastal districts while two districts of Andhra Pradesh could experience "extremely heavy rainfall" on Monday. 

"Isolated very heavy rainfall very likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana on September 8 and 9," said the IMD in its press release dated September 7. 

At least 29 people have died in the recent heavy rains and flooding in Telangana, said a top official, according to PTI. 29 of the 33 districts in the state have been declared as flood-hit on the basis of rainfall recorded between August 31 and September 3, said State Chief Secretary, Santhi Kumari.

A financial aid of Rs 3 crore has been disbursed to the flood-hit districts to carry out relief works, she said. 

In a teleconference held with district collectors, the Chief Secretary sought a detailed report on the losses caused by the heavy rain and flood before Monday afternoon. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that the ex gratia money would be given to the kin of the flood victims. He asked for the details of the 29 deceased from the Chief Secretary. 

On Sunday, Telangana BJP president and Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy visited the flood-hit areas of Khammam district in Telangana and took stock of the situation. He assured the people that the Narendra Modi government would fully support those affected in every possible way.

On Monday, CM Reddy will hold a meeting to deliberate on the relief and rehabilitation measures to be taken up, official sources said.
