Punjab Vigilance SSP Jagatpreet Singh Suspended for Sending Notice To Congress Candidate Ashu
Punjab Vigilance SSP Jagatpreet Singh was suspended for misconduct after allegedly issuing a notice to Congress leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu to gain sympathy ahead of Ludhiana bypoll.

In a major development, the Punjab Government has suspended Jagatpreet Singh, PPS, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vigilance, Ludhiana, with immediate effect. The suspension has been issued under Rule 4(1)(a) of the Punjab Civil Services (Punishment and Appeal) Rules, 1970, citing grave misconduct and dereliction of duty.
The action comes just hours after the Vigilance Bureau served a notice to Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu in connection with an ongoing case. Ashu is contesting the upcoming by-election from the Ludhiana West assembly constituency.
However, the situation has taken a dramatic turn, with sources revealing that there was prior communication between SSP Jagatpreet Singh and Bharat Bhushan Ashu regarding the notice. Allegedly, the notice was sent to generate sympathy for Ashu ahead of the election.

Insiders further claim that Jagatpreet Singh and Ashu share an old association, with Ashu reportedly playing a role in Singh’s earlier promotion to the rank of DSP. The notice was allegedly dispatched overnight without any formal directive, further raising questions about its intent and legitimacy.
The government order states that during the suspension period, Singh’s headquarters will be the office of the Director General of Police, Punjab, in Chandigarh, and he will not leave the station without prior permission from the competent authority. He will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per applicable rules.
This political twist has sparked a controversy over potential misuse of administrative machinery for electoral gains, and political analysts believe the matter could have far-reaching implications in the ongoing by-poll campaign.
