Punjab: Low-Intensity Explosion Near Ludhiana Court Complex After Garbage Put On Fire

A low-intensity explosion took place during the cleaning of goods godown near the Ludhiana Court complex.

New Delhi: A low-intensity explosion took place during the cleaning of goods godown near the Ludhiana Court complex. A glass bottle exploded when garbage was set ablaze, according to police, reported ANI.

“Probably some glass bottles in the garbage exploded which led to a minor blast. A sweeper had put a pile of garbage on fire in the parking area,” said Inspector Neeraj Chaudhary as quoted by Indian Express.

No casualties or injuries were reported.

According to the Indian Express report, ACP (Civil Lines) Jasroop Kaur Batth while speaking to the media, said, “The malkhana (storeroom where police records are kept) was being cleaned and scrap was taken out. A sweeper had put a pile of garbage on fire and a glass bottle inside it exploded. There was no malafide intention or foul play. We request residents of Ludhiana not to spread or believe in any rumours which are calling it an act of terror.”

Earlier in December, a blast by terrorists had rocked the Ludhiana court complex, killing one person and injuring six others.

After the blast, a stampede broke out in the court complex. The district court was functioning when the blast took place.

The intensity of the blast was so huge that one of the walls in the court complex got damaged and the windows of some vehicles parked in the premises were shattered.

The blast took place near the record room on the second floor of the court complex, Ludhiana Police Commissioner told news agency ANI. Police suspect that the man killed in the blast in the toilet was trying to assemble or plant the explosive device, PTI reported.
