Puducherry: Man Held For Posing As ED Officer, Seeks MLAs Details Of Assets

A man posing as an Enforcement Directorate officer was arrested Puducherry on Sunday as he called on some MLAs at their residences and sought details of their income and assets, news agency PTI reported, citing police. Speaking to PTI, Independent MLA Shivashankar, who represents the Oulgaret constituency, said that the person came to his home and claimed he was from the Chennai office of the Enforcement Directorate.
The legislator said the "fake person" came on a scooter that he had allegedly taken on rent and sought details from him on the wealth he acquired during the last few years.
Shivasankar stated that he suspected the person's identity and asked for the official ID card from him. "I asked for the official ID card from him which he said he did not have," as quoted by PTI. When asked about the phone number of his office, the man said he did not have it, the MLA said.
His doubt became stronger and he immediately contacted the police in Reddiarpalayam and handed the person over to them. Shivasankar said the person told him that his name was Arun Kumar alias Alwar. The MLA said the person met seven legislators in Puducherry including those belonging to the ruling BJP and the Congress.

Two men were arrested for allegedly duping people by impersonating IPS, IAS and IRS officers on social media by creating fake accounts, police said on Sunday. According to PTI, the accused have been identified as Ravi Singh (22) and Shyam Kumar (22), residents of Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, they said.
After social media analysis, it was revealed that an account with display picture of an IPS officer, posted as DCP, was opened. The fraudsters were using the fake social media account to seek donations in their bank accounts on the pretext of helping children/patients, a senior police officer said, PTI reported.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandan Chowdhary said that the money trail led police to zero down the location of the accused at Pratapgarh. A raid was conducted and the two accused were nabbed. During interrogation, Singh disclosed that he used to create fake social media accounts of IPS, IAS and IRS officers using their pictures, names and their bio from their original social media profiles, the DCP said.
