Orange Alert Issued For Mumbai As Heavy Rain Lashes City, Red Alert Sounded For Other Maharashtra Districts
An 'Orange' alert has been issued for Mumbai and a 'Red' alert has been sounded two other districts as heavy rain lashed several parts of Maharashtra.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a 'Red' alert for Palghar and Raigad districts while an 'Orange' alert has been sounded for Mumbai as heavy rain lashed parts of Maharashtra. One NDRF team has been deployed in Palghar and Raigad each. Raigad District Collector Yogesh Mhase has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in the district today in view of heavy rains. IMD has also issued an 'Orange' Alert for Thane, Mumbai and Ratnagiri today, reported news agency ANI. Badlapur-Ambernath railway tracks were also closed due to severe waterlogging after heavy rainfall in parts of the city, said Central Railway CPRO.

IMD has issued a 'Red' alert for Palghar, and Raigad districts and an 'Orange' alert for Thane, Mumbai and Ratnagiri today.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar instructed the District Collectors to take precautionary measures immediately and deploy relief work and disaster management teams in view of the incessant rainfall in the city.

Similar to the Raigad collector's decision, Chandrapur district Collector Vinay Gowda also declared a holiday for all schools and colleges today in view of heavy rainfall.

India Meteorological Department upgraded the rain alert for the Pune district to red while indicating that heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely to happen in the next 24 hours. As per the Times Now, the red alert in Pune is in effect from 12:00 PM on July 19, 2023. As per the IMD, Pune could receive rainfall of up to 20 cm in the next 24 hours. In the past few days, the district has already witnessed heavy rains in the past few days. IMD has warned that the situation might worsen in the coming hours.
