MP: 19 Hours On, Rewa Officials Race Against Time To Rescue Child Who Fell In 60-Foot Borewell

In Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, a six-year-old boy named Mayur accidentally fell into a 60-foot borewell. Rescue efforts are ongoing despite the challenges posed by heavy rainfall and the depth of the borewell.

A six-year-old child fell into a 60-foot-deep borewell in Madhya Pradesh's Rewa on Friday. About eight excavators have been deployed as officials launched a rescue operation. The incident occurred in the Manika village area, approximately 90 kilometers from the district headquarters. Mayur, also known as Mayank, aged six, son of Vijay, an Adivasi, was playing with other children in a field around 5 PM when he accidentally fell into the open borewell. Upon receiving information about the incident, authorities were alerted by the family members.

"We are trying to rescue the child that fell into the borewell. The depth of the borewell is 70 ft. The information that we have after digging 50 ft, and through the camera and all, the child is possibly stuck at the depth of 45-50 ft. The NDRF team is digging a horizontal tunnel to reach the child," Rewa Collector, Pratibha Pal told ANI.

"The child slipped into the open borewell while playing with other kids in the field," said a local resident.

Rescue operations were swiftly initiated by administrative officials to safely retrieve the child from the borewell. However, the ongoing rainfall has posed significant challenges to the rescue efforts.

"The rescue operation is facing difficulties due to the rain," stated an official.

The borewell, reported to be approximately 140 feet deep overall, has made the rescue operation more complex coupled with the rain.

It is important to note that the child, trapped 60 feet below the ground, is said to be moving inside the borewell. As part of the rescue operation, an oxygen cylinder was lowered into the ditch, and a camera has been deployed to monitor the child's movements closely.
