Kerala To Reopen Schools For Classes 1 To 7 Along With Std 10 & 12 From November 1

The Chief Minister has taken the decision based on the suggestion by health experts to start schools first for primary sections. 

Chennai: The Kerala government has decided to reopen schools for students of Classes 1-7, 10 and 12 from November 1 and other classes on November 15 after a COVID-19 review meeting held with the state Chief Minister and other bureaucrats on Saturday.  With the announcement, the state will also soon begin the arrangement for the reopening of school. 

According to a report on ANI, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has taken the decision to begin classes for Class 1-7,  Class10 and Class 12 from November 1.  He has also instructed to reopen schools for higher sections including Classes 8, 9 and 11 from November 15. The Chief Minister has taken the decision based on the suggestion by health experts to start schools first for primary sections.

Meanwhile on the day, the Chief Minister took the decision, Kerala reported 19,325 fresh COVID-19 cases and 143 deaths due to the infection. The state also witnessed 27,266 people recovering from the novel coronavirus. With the new numbers, the active COVID-19 cases dropped to 1,80,842 on Saturday. According to reports, among the people who tested positive 18, 114 were indigenous cases while 96 people who arrived from other states and countries tested positive along with 77 healthcare workers.

Among the districts, Ernakulam recorded the highest number of COVID-19 cases with 2,626 people testing positive for the virus followed by Thirussur with 2,329 people and Kozhikode with 2,188 positive patients. 

Thiruvananthapuram reported 2,050 cases, Palakkad reported 1,775 cases, Malappuram reported 1,596 cases and Kollam reported 1,342 cases. In the district with the least positive new COVID-19 cases, Kasaragod emerged as the district with least positive of 363 cases and the second least was Wayanad with 452 cases.
