Section 144 has been imposed in Jharkhand's Dhanbad after a clash broke out over the alleged theft of an E-rickshaw battery. 30 persons have been arrested in the case so far.

Around 30 people were arrested after a clash broke out between two groups in Jharkhand's Dhanbad over an alleged theft of an e-rickshaw battery on Friday. According to Dhanbad SDM Prem Kumar Tiwari, Section 144 has been imposed in Kailudih, Chhatabad and Akash Kinari areas under the Katras police station on Saturday. Stones were pelted from both sides when clashes broke out, Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) told ANI. Prohibitory orders have also been imposed in three areas of Katras police station, about 29 km from the district headquarters. A case has been registered in the case.

"Section 144 was imposed to prevent the escalation of the clash. Around 30 persons from both sides have been arrested," he said.

DSP Baghmara Nisha Murmu said the situation is under control at present, PTI reported. In the morning, Ranchi's Harmu market was closed and the police force was deployed in the area.

"Clash between two groups erupted over the theft of an e-rickshaw battery. Stones were pelted," said the Dhanbad SSP.

An eyewitness said during the clash about half a dozen vehicles were set on fire several houses were also damaged. It was alleged that the police had to resort to a lathicharge to control the situation. However, senior police officers denied using batons to contain the violence, PTI reported.

The battery was stolen from an e-rickshaw that belonged to Janardan Yadav, a resident of Kailudih which triggered the violence, police were reported as saying, PTI mentioned in the report. Janardan and his son lodged an FIR at Katras police station and submitted CCTV footage.
