Jammu & Kashmir's Doda District Is 'Gradually Sinking', Says Official As 6 Buildings Develop Cracks

Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district is "gradually sinking", said Doda SDM Athar Amin Zargar as he informed that six buildings had developed cracks.

New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district is gradually sinking, Sub Divisional Magistrate of Doda Athar Amin Zargar said on Friday. He informed that six buildings were found with cracks till Thursday and now the cracks "have started to increase". He assured that the government is trying to find a solution as soon as possible.

"Cracks were reported in a house in December in the Doda district. Till yesterday, 6 buildings had cracks, but now these cracks have started to increase. This area is gradually sinking. The government is trying to find a solution as soon as possible," news agency ANI quoted him as saying.

Affected residents in the Thathri town of Doda district's Basti locality have relocated to live with their neighbours or relatives. Senior district administration officials and a team of geologists visited the area to determine the cause of the cracks.

Recently, Uttarakhand's Joshimath witnessed land subsidence wherein 863 buildings developed cracks. As per Joshimath District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana, 181 buildings were marked unsafe in the subsidence-hit Joshimath in located in Chamoli district.

According to the report, he directed the RWD to make available the contour map of the land in Dhaka soon. After taking suggestions from the affected people, a detailed plan for displacement will be prepared by CBRI. 

"Providing relief to the affected people in Joshimath is among the top priorities of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at present," said an official release, reported PTI.
