Terrorists Open Fire At Army Vehicle In Jammu & Kashmir's Poonch

The attack took place in the Thanamandi area of the Poonch district.

New Delhi: Terrorists on Thursday opened fire at an Army vehicle carrying jawans in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, said officials. According to PTI, the attack took place in the Thanamandi area of the district.

There was no immediate report of any casualty, the officials said.

News agency PTI shared visuals from the site in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district where an Army truck was ambushed by terrorists earlier today.

The vehicle came under attack in the Savni area on the Thanamandi-Surankote road. It was carrying jawans from Bufliaz, where a cordon-and-search operation against terrorists has been underway since Wednesday.

The terrorists fired upon the vehicle, leaving at least three jawans injured, the officials said.

A joint operation was launched on Wednesday in the general area of Surankote and Bafliaz of Poonch, and contact with terrorists was established today, the Public Relations Officer (Defence) in Jammu said.

According to the PRO Defence Jammu, an encounter is in progress.

Notably, the stretch between Dhera Ki Gali and Bufliaz, where the incident took place, is a densely forested region. It leads to Chamrer and Bhata Dhurian forests where five soldiers were killed in an ambush on an Army vehicle on April 20 earlier this year.

Earlier in May, five Army personnel were killed and a Major-rank officer was injured in this region during an anti-terror operation.

As per reports, over 35 soldiers have been killed during anti-terror operations in this area over the last two years.
