Road Accident On Rajouri-Jammu Highway Claims Two Lives, 7 Injured
Two people died and nine were injured in a road accident in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities have launched a probe and issued fresh road safety measures to prevent future mishaps.

Two people lost their lives and nine others sustained injuries in a road accident that occurred early Tuesday morning in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district.
According to officials, the collision took place near the Chattiyar-Chingus road involving two vehicles — one bearing registration number JK02AW-9030 and the other JK02CG-7011.
“In this accident, two people were killed while nine others were injured. Army, police, and rescue teams immediately reached the spot for the rescue operation," said the officials.
The deceased have been identified as 26-year-old Insha Fatima, daughter of Akhtar Ali from Dhanwan Kote, and 50-year-old Farzana Begum, wife of Mohd Iqbal from Fatehpur.
All the injured individuals were transported to the Government Medical College (GMC) hospital in Rajouri town for medical treatment.
"Police have taken cognisance of the incident,” the officials added.
In light of frequent road mishaps in hilly areas like Rajouri, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, and Ramban, traffic authorities have deployed special squads to monitor issues such as overloading, speeding, and road rage. These have been identified as major contributors to accidents in these regions.
To curb such incidents, authorities have introduced stringent measures including cancellation of driving licences for rash and negligent driving, and even imprisonment for parents of minors caught driving.
Among the hilly districts with high accident rates, Rajouri, Doda, Kishtwar, and Poonch remain particularly vulnerable.
Additionally, petrol pump attendants across Jammu and Kashmir have been instructed not to supply fuel to two-wheelers if either the rider or pillion is not wearing a crash helmet. In some cases, traffic department officials have also distributed helmets and provided safety counselling to two-wheeler riders as a part of their awareness drive.
