Elderly Woman Trampled To Death By Elephant In Jharkhand's Jamshedpur

The 70-year-old woman, identified as Ratni Sabar, was relieving herself in the morning when she was attacked by the elephant.

An elderly woman was trampled to death by an elephant in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district on Monday. 

The incident took place at Chiyabandhi village in the Chakulia block of Jamshedpur. The 70-year-old woman, identified as Ratni Sabar, was relieving herself in the morning when she was attacked by the elephant. 

She was rushed to a nearby health centre by villagers, where she was declared brought dead by the doctor. 

Herd Of Elephants Wreaks Havoc In Andhra Villages

On the same day, IANS reported that a herd of elephants wreaked havoc in a few villages in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district, damaging crops and causing panic among people. The herd strayed into a couple of villages in Vangara mandal and damaged the crops.

Residents of VVR Peta and Rajulagumada villages alerted the forest department, which sent officials to drive out the wild elephants. The officials advised villagers and farmers to remain alert. Concerned about potential damage to their crops, farmers have appealed to authorities for immediate action to prevent further losses.

Four People Trampled To Death

This Jamshedpur incident comes just days after four people were trampled to death by an elephant in Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district. The incident took place at Gamhriya ward-9 under Bagicha Nagar panchayat, Jashpur Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Jitendra Upadhyay said, according to ANI.

As per the report, the elephant attacked a house, killing a man, his daughter and another man from the family. A neighbour rushed to help after hearing the commotion and was trampled by the elephant as well. 

Upadhyay said a forest department team reached the spot upon receiving information about the incident. The elephant was roaming alone at midnight.
