ED Team Attacked In Bengal: Guv Asks For TMC Leader's Arrest As Congress, BJP Trade Barbs — Top Points

West Bengal Governor C. V. Ananda Bose has instructed authorities to arrest Trinamool Congress leader Sahajahan Sheikh, the prime accused in the case of assault on ED officials during a raid at his residence in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas. Bose also expressed concern that Sheikh may have "crossed the border" and asked authorities to investigate his alleged connections with terrorists, as reported by news agency PTI.

Congress slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party over the issue and said that the "where were they all this time?". West Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Sunday said that the "BJP keeps harping about Rohingyas. But where were they all this time?". The Congress leader further stated that the saffron party has started politics of polarisation now when the matter is in the news.

The Congress leader reacted to the lookout circular issued by the Enforcement Directorate against Sheikh and said that the probe agency is itself an idiot. "What will ED do?" he asked.

  • The Enforcement Directorate on Saturday issued a lookout notice against Trinamool Congress leader Shahjahan Sheikh a day after a mob assaulted ED officers during a raid at his residence, news agency PTI reported, citing an official.
  • According to PTI, the move from the probe agency comes amid apprehensions that he might flee the country following the incident on Friday in which three officers of the central agency sustained injuries and several vehicles were damaged by a mob at Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas district, which is close to the Bangladesh border.
  • On the attack on the ED team, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh said that It was an unfortunate incident. "It was an unfortunate incident...Central agencies faced this situation in many states.
