Bihar Records 6,146 Dengue Cases In September, Highest In 5 Years

Bihar recorded 6,146 cases of dengue in the month of September, making it the highest in the past five years in a single month.

With dengue cases spiking in Bihar, the state has recorded 6,146 infections in the month of September, making it the highest in a single month for the past five years. As per the state health department's data, Bihar reported 6,421 cases this year and the number of cases that were registered in September was three times the number of cases that were registered last year. The number of cases registered last year in September stood at 1,896.

Around 416 cases were reported in Bihar on Friday out of which Patna recorded the highest with 177 cases followed by Munger with 33 cases, Saran lodged 28 cases, Bhagalpur clocked 27 cases and Begusarai registered 17 cases. 

As per the National Centre for Vector Borne Disease Control of the Union Health Ministry, seven deaths due to dengue were reported in the state till September 17. According to the health department's data, a total of 13,972 cases were reported last year. 

More than 290 people were being treated at 12 government hospitals till September 30 out of which 127 were being treated at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur. Around 39 people were being treated at VIMS in Pawapuri and 28 were being treated at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

Apart from Bihar, Dengue cases are rising in Delhi as well. Till September 26, 3013 cases of dengue were recorded in the national capital, according to the mosquito-borne disease report issued by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), as reported by the news agency ANI.

The civic body in Delhi earlier on Tuesday had a discussion about the spike in dengue case and officially notified that 3,013 dengue cases have been reported this year. It further stated that this year, 294 cases of malaria and 23 cases of chikungunya were also reported.
