Chirag Paswan Re-Elected LJP (Ram Vilas) Chief For 5 Years, Announces Plans For Jharkhand Polls
Chirag Paswan said the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana, Jammu Kashmir and Jharkhand was also discussed in the meeting.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan has been re-elected as the president of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) for another five years at the party's national executive meeting in Ranchi. Chirag said that the decision was taken unanimously at the meeting.
"The meeting of the National Executive was held today in Ranchi where our executive members from all over the country were present. The main objective of this executive meeting was to elect the National President... I have been re-elected as the National President of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)," the Union Minister told reporters during a press briefing on Sunday.
Paswan, the Minister of Food Processing Industries, said the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana, Jammu Kashmir and Jharkhand was also discussed in the meeting.
In Jharkhand, the party may contest the polls either with national alliance partner BJP or on its own, he said.
Earlier, Chirag Paswan had said his party would field its candidates on 28 out of total 81 seats in the Jharkhand election.
In the 2019 Jharkhand assembly elections, LJP had contested 50 seats on its own, but could not win any seat.
Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United) has announced that it is making preparations on 11 seats in the state polls.
The LJP leader is also eyeing the Bihar assembly polls, which is scheduled to be held next year. In the last assembly polls, Chirag Paswan went solo promising an outside support to the BJP alliance in Bihar, but pitched candidates against Nitish Kumar's JD(U).
Though, Chirag Paswan's party gave a dent to the JD(U), ruining its prospects in at least 30 seats in Bihar, it managed to win only one seat- Matihani in Begusarai district.
This is also the first time, when the LJP would be contesting against its rival faction, led by Chirag's uncle and Ram Vilas Paswan's brother Pashupati Paras, who was a Union Minister in PM Modi's NDA 2.0 government till 2024.
