2024 Paris Olympics: Over 60% Menu Set To Be Vegan, Vegetarian In Paris Games

The menu for the 2024 Paris Olympics reflects a significant shift towards vegan and vegetarian options, including over 60% of the menu as vegetarian options.

The world’s grandest sport event- Olympics, is set to take place from July 26 in the city of Paris, France. In what comes as surprising news, the menu for the upcoming Olympics 2024 in Paris has been unveiled, and it diverges significantly from the typical expectations associated with French cuisine. Despite France's popularity for its meat-centric dishes, the Paris Olympics 2024 will predominantly feature vegetarian options.

As reported by Express UK, 60% of the food served during the event will be vegetarian, with 80% of all dishes being sourced from local produce in France, a country known for its high levels of meat consumption. During the Games this summer, athletes and visitors can expect to find a variety of meals, including meat-free hotdogs, falafels, and plant-based "tuna" options.

Sodexo Live!, the French food service company chosen to manage catering at the Olympics Village and 14 venues during the Paris Games, has developed 500 recipes. These will be available at various locations, including a sit-down eatery catering to up to 3,500 competitors.

Paris 2024 President Highlights Collective Responsibility & Sustainability

Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet highlights the collective responsibility to reduce carbon footprint and promote sustainability. He encourages trying vegan food options available at the event, noting their excellent taste.

“It’s also our responsibility to educate the people who will be engaged in Paris 2024. It’s a collective duty now to change our habits and definitely to reduce our carbon footprint. So, when you buy food in the venue, you should also try the vegan food that is served because, in terms of taste, it’s very good,” noted Estanguet per the report.

Notably, throughout the duration of the Games from July 26 to August 11, a renowned chef, including some with Michelin stars, will showcase their culinary skills daily at the Olympic Village, cooking in front of the athletes. In addition to the diverse dining options available, athletes will enjoy convenient access to "grab and go" food stands. Notably, one of these stands will be exclusively dedicated to French cuisine, prepared by talented chefs.
