BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla on Tuesday announced to suspended IPL 2021 for this season due to rising Covid-19 concerns in the bio-bubble. The decision has come after several players reported being infected with the novel Coronavirus.
In an official statement, BCCI said, "The Indian Premier League Governing Council (IPL GC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in an emergency meeting have unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 season, with immediate effect."
Here are the few implications that could be seen after the suspension of IPL 2021:
- The immediate fallout of IPL suspension is the shifting of World T20 from India to the UAE. BCCI remains the host though.
- No window available for the IPL to resume/reschedule unless BCCI retains something in the next ten days. BCCI trying its best to resume IPL in Mumbai with proper protocols. Looks unlikely though.
- All Indian players to remain in a bubble for the next four days and return negative before leaving for home. All payers asked to strictly stay inside the home.
- All foreign players to be flown out of the country till May 15 and kept in quarantine for safety.
- India Calendar is packed with World Test Championship, England tour, south Africa tour straight thereafter.
These are some changes that are expected to be seen after the suspense of IPL for 2021.
