Mo Bobat Joins RCB As Director Of Cricket Ahead Of IPL 2024

At RCB, Bobat will step into the shoes of Mike Hesson, whose contract was not renewed by the franchise, leading to his departure in July.

New Delhi: Mo Bobat, the influential figure behind England's white-ball cricket success during his tenure as Performance Director, has assumed a new role as Director of Cricket for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ahead of IPL 2024.

Bobat's remarkable journey with the England men's team included guiding the Three Lions to victory in the 50-over World Cup in 2019 and the T20 World Cup in 2022. His strategic approach and vision played a pivotal role in England's white-ball cricket achievements.

Having joined the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2011, Bobat steadily climbed the ranks, eventually taking on the role of Performance Director in 2019. His impact on English cricket has been widely recognized.

At RCB, Bobat will step into the shoes of Mike Hesson, whose contract was not renewed by the franchise, leading to his departure in July.

In a statement released by RCB, Bobat expressed his appreciation for the work done by Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar in ensuring stability and consistency within the team.

Bobat's arrival at RCB also marks a reunion with Andy Flower, the team's head coach, with whom he collaborated during Flower's time with the England cricket team.

"I'm really looking forward to working closely with Andy Flower, somebody I know well, to take on the baton and deliver the success that RCB craves. Andy and I are relishing the challenges ahead, and we're looking forward to helping Faf (Du Plessis) and the players fulfill their potential," Bobat stated.

Prathmesh Mishra, Chairman of RCB, expressed his confidence in Bobat's ability to guide the team towards excellence. Bobat will be responsible for overseeing talent recruitment, performance plans, and establishing a culture of high performance within the RCB franchise.

RCB, which is yet to secure an IPL title in 16 seasons, is hopeful that Bobat's expertise and experience will propel them to new heights of success in the upcoming IPL 2024.
