IPL Franchises Demand Strict Action Against Foreign Players Who Skip IPL For Invalid Reasons: Report

England had recalled players for international matches just before last year's IPL play-off started, leaving teams without key English players during crucial knockout matches.

In just a few hours, all ten Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners will convene at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters in Mumbai. They will discuss various topics, including player retention, impact player rules, salary caps, and more.

One of the key issues on the agenda is the problem of foreign players failing to fulfill their commitments, particularly the concern about players disappearing after being bought at the IPL auction.

Players such as Jason Roy, Alex Hales, and Wanindu Hasaranga have left the IPL due to low bids, while others frequently depart citing injuries, which disrupts team plans. The upcoming meeting will address these issues and focus on ensuring player commitment.

According to an exclusive report by Cricbuzz, IPL team officials have met with BCCI CEO Hemang Amin to address the issue of players leaving teams without valid reasons. They emphasized the need for action against such players and some teams have even called for a ban as the sudden departure of players disrupts team plans.

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had recalled players for international matches just before last year's IPL play-off started, leaving teams without key English players during crucial knockout matches.

England captain Jos Buttler, the highest run-getter for Rajasthan Royals at the end of group stage matches, expressed his dissatisfaction with this decision, suggesting that no bilateral matches should be scheduled during the IPL. Notably, Rajasthan Royals got knocked out after having to find Buttler's replacement.

Teams have also highlighted another issue: some players choose not to participate in the mega auction but later enter the mini auction the following year and secure large amounts.
