Coach Stephen Fleming's Bold Comment On MS Dhoni's IPL Future

Following CSK's third straight loss, head coach Stephen Fleming was asked about Dhoni's retirement — and he gave a clear response.

Rumors of MS Dhoni's retirement took center stage during Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals.

For the first time, Dhoni's parents were spotted at Chepauk, and a heartwarming moment unfolded as he touched their feet before taking the field. This gesture quickly fueled speculation across social media that Dhoni might be playing his final IPL match.

However, those rumors turned out to be unfounded, offering a huge sigh of relief to CSK fans. Chennai, unfortunately, couldn't seal the win and suffered a 25-run defeat to Delhi Capitals.

Dhoni was at the crease during the final stages but couldn't take the team across the line. Following CSK's third straight loss, head coach Stephen Fleming was asked about Dhoni's retirement — and he gave a clear response.

Fleming shuts down Dhoni retirement buzz

Addressing the question, Fleming said, "No, that's not my role to stop it. I genuinely don't know. I'm enjoying my time working with him. He's still going strong. I haven't even brought up this topic with him — you guys are the ones asking about it."

MS Dhoni came in at number seven and played a composed knock of 30 runs off 26 balls. He and Vijay Shankar shared an 84-run stand for the sixth wicket. Shankar remained unbeaten on 69 off 54 deliveries, but their partnership wasn't enough to chase down the target.

CSK's third consecutive defeat

Batting first, Delhi Capitals posted a competitive 183/6 in 20 overs. KL Rahul led the charge with a fluent 77 off 51 balls, supported by Abhishek Porel (33 off 20) and a quick cameo by Tristan Stubbs (24 off 12). Chennai’s chase started on a shaky note, losing five wickets for just 74 runs. Though Dhoni and Shankar showed some resistance, CSK eventually fell short.
