IPL 2025 | Most Wickets In Single IPL Season: Check Out Top 5 Bowlers
Most wickets in a single IPL season: An Indian pacer leads the all-time chart.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has seen some incredible bowling performances over the years, with bowlers playing a key role in their teams' success.
While many legendary pacers and spinners have shined in the tournament, only a few have managed to dominate an entire season.
When it comes to the record for most wickets in a single Indian Premier League (IPL) edition, foreign bowlers have largely dominated, but an Indian pacer leads the all-time chart.
Harshal Patel holds record for most wickets in an single IPL season
Indian pacer Harshal Patel holds the record for most wickets in a single Indian Premier League (IPL) season, achieving this feat in IPL 2021 while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
He picked up 32 wickets in just 15 matches at an outstanding average of 14.34 and an economy rate of 8.14. His stellar performances earned him the Purple Cap, and he also registered one four-wicket haul and one five-wicket haul during the season.
Interestingly, West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo also took 32 wickets in an IPL season, but he played 18 matches in IPL 2013. As a result, Harshal, with a better strike rate and fewer games, remains at the top of the list.
Foreign bowlers dominate the Top five
While Harshal Patel leads the list, the other four bowlers in the top five are all overseas players:
Harshal Patel (India) – 32 wickets in 15 matches (IPL 2021)
Dwayne Bravo (West Indies) – 32 wickets in 18 matches (IPL 2013)
Kagiso Rabada (South Africa) – 30 wickets in 17 matches (IPL 2020)
Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka) – 28 wickets in 16 matches (IPL 2011)
James Faulkner (Australia) – 28 wickets in 16 matches (IPL 2013)
Over the years, foreign pacers have dominated in IPL's bowling history, with Harshal Patel being the only Indian player to feature in the top five.
With each Indian Premier League (IPL) season bringing fresh talent and new records, it remains to be seen whether any bowler can break the 32-wicket record in the upcoming editions.
