DC vs CSK, IPL 2021: Dhawan And Shaw's Batting Masterclass Help Delhi Capitals Thump Chennai At Wankhede

IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals defeated three-time champions Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets in their first match of the 14th season of IPL played at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday.

Openers Prithvi Shaw (38-ball 72 runs) and Shikhar Dhawan (54-ball 85 runs) stitched a solid 138-run partnership for the opening wicket to power Delhi Capitals to 7-wicket win against heavyweights Chennai Super Kings at Mumbai's Wankhede stadium on Saturday. Dhawan also completed his 600 fours in the IPL. He is the first batsman to do so in the cash-rich T20 tournament.

Captain Rishabh Pant, who came out to bat at number three, remained unbeaten on 15 with the help of two fours off 12 balls. Marcus Stoinis scored 14 runs in 9 balls with three fours. Pant played the winning shot, which was a boundary, off Shardul Thakur's delivery. Shardul took two wickets and Dwayne Bravo took one wicket for Chennai.

Earlier, comeback-man Suresh Raina's hard-fought fifty, a solid 53-run stand with Moeen Ali and a fiery 15-ball 34 runs cameo from Sam Curran powered Chennai Super Kings to 188/7 - a respectable total especially after they got off to the worst-possible start. CSK lost both openers Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad inside the first-three overs. Thanks to Raina's disciplined knock, CSK managed to storm their way back after top-order collapse.

Ambati Rayudu and Raina added 63 runs for the fourth wicket but Rayudu was dismissed after scoring 23 runs off 16 balls with the help of a four and two sixes.

Raina completed his half-century thereafter but he got run out and returned to the pavilion. Immediately after Raina's dismissal, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni dismissed without opening his account. Dhoni landed on the field after a long time but failed to deliver.
