Cristian Stellini, Tottenham's Interim Manager, Sacked After Newcastle Humiliation

Cristian Stellini had been appointed as the interim manager on March 26.

Tottenham sacked interim head coach Cristian Stellini on April 24, after chairman Daniel Levy branded Sunday's 6-1 defeat at Newcastle "wholly unacceptable". Stellini, who was only put in charge last month after his former boss Antonio Conte left the club, will be replaced by Ryan Mason.

Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur's interim manager Cristian Stellini was sacked after just four matches in charge post the team's 6-1 humiliation by Newcastle on April 23 (Sunday). The performance by the team at the St. James' Park was described by chairman Daniel Levy as "wholly unacceptable" as the club was at one stage trailing 0-5 after 21 minutes.

48-year-old Stellini had been appointed as the interim manager not too long ago on 26 March after Antonio Conte's stint with the club ended. Post Stellini's departure, it is Ryan Mason, who has worked under the Italian will take charge. 

"Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff. Cristian stepped in at a difficult point in our season and I want to thank him for the professional manner in which he and his coaching staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging time. We wish him and his staff well," Levy mention in an official release.

"Ryan Mason will take over Head Coach duties with immediate effect. Ryan knows the Club and the players well. We shall update further on his coaching staff in due course," it added.

"I met with the Player Committee today - the squad is determined to pull together to ensure the strongest possible finish to the season. We are all clear we need to deliver performances which earn your amazing support," it further said.

The team's loss to Tottenham handed a major blow to their chances of qualification at the UEFA Champions League. The team is fifth on the points table, six points behind both Newcastle who are placed third and Manchester United who are at the fourth place.

Both sides though have played fewer matches than Spurs who will be up against the Red Devils in their next encounter on Thursday. Spurs won one, drew one and lost two games after in Stellini's four games in charge after which the decision to remove him from the managerial role has been taken.
