'Virat Kohli Stepped Down From Captaincy..': Younis Khan Slams Babar Azam, Cites Indian Great As Example

Younis Khan is the lastest ex-player to join the list of those who have lashed out at Babar Azam. He cited Indian great Virat Kohli's example to Babar & Co.

Younis Khan, the former Pakistan captain, did not mince any words in criticism of Babar Azam among other batters from the Men in Green for prioritising personal records and achivements over the team's goals. Notably, Babar has been facing sharp criticism not only for his batting where he hasn't been able to score a half-century in his last 16 Test innings but also for his leadership in white-ball cricket.

Younis Khan is the lastest ex-player to join the list of those who have lashed out at Babar. He went as far as to say that players in the Pakistan cricket team including Babar talk more than they actually perform which is why results haven't gone their way. Babar & Co. were even given a Virat Kohli example in the former batter's no-nonsense comment.

"If Babar and other top players deliver on the field, then results will be clear to everyone. Humare players khelte kam, bolte zyada hai. (I have observed that our players tend to talk more than they perform)," Younis told Cricket Pakistan.

"Look at Virat Kohli. He chose to step down from captaincy on his own terms, and now he's breaking records worldwide. This shows that playing for the country should be the priority. If there's any energy left, then play for yourself," the 46-year-old added.

"The only suggestion I have for Babar is that he should focus on his cricket. He should up his performance. Babar Azam was made the captain because he was the best player at the time. I was there when the decision was made that the team's best player should be the captain.

"Your focus should be on cricket. You have to perform everywhere because there are very high expectations. Players should focus more on cricket and use social media wisely, but their real answers should come through their performances with the bat and ball. He (Babar) needs to focus on his fitness and work ethic because opportunities like these don't come around often," he added.

Pakistan Lose Test Series At Home Against Bangladesh

As far as Pakistan's form are concerned, it has been disappointing across formats. After their T20 World Cup 2024 debacle under Babar, the team succumbed to a 0-2 defeat against Bangladesh at home, an opponent who had never beaten them in the longest format of the game before this tour. With the horror result, Shan Masood has come the first captain from Pakistan to lose his first 5 Tests in a row. Even his captaincy has been under scrutinity and it remains to be the seen what decision the management takes going forward.
