Mohali Building Collapse: A short video capturing the moments when a four-storey building collapsed in Punjab's Mohali has surfaced. At least two people have lost their lives so far, while rescue teams are still working to find others feared trapped for over 17 hours.

The collapse occurred in Sohana village on Saturday evening, reportedly due to unauthorised digging in an adjacent plot for constructing a basement, news agency PTI reported. Mohali Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Pareek stated, “No permission was taken, and no concerned agency was informed about the unauthorised digging.”

The victims include 20-year-old Drishti Verma from Theog, Himachal Pradesh, and 29-year-old Abhishek Dhanwal from Ambala, Haryana. Verma, critically injured, was rescued from the rubble on Saturday evening but succumbed at Sohana Hospital.

According to Mohali Sub-Divisional Magistrate Damandeep Kaur, "One male body was recovered during the ongoing rescue operation." Dhanwal, an IT professional and gym visitor, was reported missing by his father after his phone became unreachable.

Rescue efforts, led by the Indian Army, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and state teams, have been ongoing since Saturday evening. Several excavators and medical teams are stationed at the site, with additional equipment provided to aid the operation.

According to PTI, Viraj S Tidke, officiating deputy commissioner, said, "A three-storey building collapsed yesterday... the rescue operation continued overnight. So far, two bodies have been recovered."

Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa criticised the Mohali administration, alleging rule violations in the area. “Accountability should be fixed in the matter. As head of the district administration, personally, I hold the Deputy Commissioner responsible,” Bajwa said during his site visit. He called for stricter measures to prevent future incidents.

Preliminary investigations are ongoing as rescuers continue their search for possible survivors under the rubble.
