World Cup 2019: Coulter-Nile records highest score by No. 8 batsman in WC

Nile registered a record in his 92-run knock against the Windies, becoming the highest run scorer, batting at the Number 8 position in World Cup history.

Nathan Coulter Nile scored a career best 92 to help Australia stage a late recovery and power them to a competitive 288-runs total against West Indies in their World Cup clash at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday. Nile brought about  a record in his 92-run knock, becoming the highest run scorer, batting at the Number 8 position in World Cup history. He eclipsed Zimbabwean Heath Streak's unbeaten 72 in the 2003 World Cup. Coulter-Nile fell short of three runs to record the all-time  highest score at Number 8 position in ODIs. Australia were in dire straits at 38 for 4 when Steve Smith and Alex Carey led a brilliant recovery by stitching a valuable partnership. Once Steven Smith fell, Nile took the onus of playing a responsible innings and helping the Australians go past the 250-run mark. Coulter Nile gave a demonstration of his power hitting by tonking the Windies seamers to all parts of the ground. His quick fire innings was studded with four towering sixes and eight fours. Nile paced his innings to perfection by first milking the singles around the ground and then pressing on the acceleration button with a flurry of boundaries in the last ten overs. Coulter-Nile was in striking distance to score his maiden ODI ton, but he fell trying to take on the long-off fielder and was caught by Sheldon Cottrell.
