ICC's Bold Plan Unveiled: What Happens If PCB Backs Out Of 2025 Champions Trophy

Pakistan government might advise PCB to step down from hosting the Champions Trophy, in which case ICC could consider relocating the event to another country.

The 2025 Champions Trophy is at the center of controversy. Set to be hosted by Pakistan in February-March, the tournament's future in the country is uncertain after BCCI declined to send the Indian team to Pakistan.

Reports indicate that Pakistan government might advise Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to step down from hosting Champions Trophy, in which case ICC could consider relocating the event to another country.

BCCI has notified ICC that India will not travel to Pakistan for the event. While a hybrid hosting model -- where India's matches and the final would be held in Dubai -- was considered to address this issue, PCB is reportedly unwilling to adopt this approach.

"The ICC has told the PCB that if it decides to go ahead with the hosting of the mega event on a Hybrid Model it would get its full hosting fees and majority of the matches," a source told PTI.

As per a report in PTI, Pakistan government may instruct PCB to give up its hosting rights altogether. Furthermore, Pakistan's participation in ICC and Asia Cup tournaments against India may also be restricted.

What will happen if Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) withdraws from hosting 2025 Champions Trophy?

ICC has reached out to PCB, proposing a hybrid model to keep Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan. However, if Pakistan declines to host the event, South Africa may be considered to take over as host, PTI reported. PCB has yet to issue an official response, as discussions with Pakistan government are ongoing.

There will be nothing new if Pakistan withdraws from hosting the Champions Trophy 2025. In 2008, Pakistan was originally scheduled to host the Champions Trophy but was unable to do so. The tournament was then shifted to South Africa in 2009.
