West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell handed one-year ban
New Delhi: West Indian all-rounder Andre Russell has been banned from all cricket for a year over a doping code violation. The ban has been imposed by an independent anti-doping body from Kingston.
The 28-year-old did not file his whereabouts on three occasions in 2015 as required, which constitutes a failed drugs test under World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) guidelines.
His punishment was handed down by the Jamaican Anti-Doping Commission on Tuesday. According to JADCO Russell failed to give them the details on following dates: January 1, July 1 and July 25, 2015. The West Indies cricket also neglected JADCO’s Emails, phone and letters.
“It’s like a big cloud over my head. If I get a ban then definitely I’m out of cricket [during the period of the suspension]; I mean all formats. So I’d just love to know I’m back and I can represent Jamaica Tallawahs, West Indies, and all the other teams I play for in the world.” Said Russell
